THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Poornachandran, the youngster who lost a hand and an eye in a bomb blast in Kannur, has been promised a government job by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, according to the Sathya Sai Orphanage Trust, which cares for the third-year student of the Sri Swathi Thirunal College of Music, Thiruvananthapuram. The Chief Minister made the promise when he visited Kottayam recently to inaugurate the Sayoojyam Old Age Home building of the Trust, Trust executive director K N Anandakumar said. The CM’s promise is that Poornachandran can be assured of a government job once he passes his third-year exams. Poornachandran was born as Amavasi in Kallakurichi village in Tamil Nadu in 1989. When he was eight and was eking out a living as a rag-picker, he lost his right eye and left hand in a bomb blast in Kannur. Anandakumar took him to the Sai Gramam, Thonnackal, and soon he got a new name - Poornachandran. Today, he is a third-year student at the Music College and is also familiar to television viewers as a participant in the Idea Star Singer contest.
