New Delhi: Having borne the ire from the Commonwealth Games Federation, the Games' Organising Committee Chairman and Indian Olympic Association President Suresh Kalmadi maintained that the preparations are on schedule.
"There is nothing to be worried about as preparations are on track. Contrary to what has been suggested, the Organising Committee has things under control and the venues and infrastructure will be ready as per the schedule," Kalmadi said on Thursday.
Kalmadi expressed his views at a workshop on Sports Management and Planning for the Games where a team from Australia, which included members from the Organising Committee of the previous edition of the Olympics in Sydney and the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, and who had overseen two grand spectacles.
The Commonwealth Games Organising Committee is aiming a December 2009 wrap following which the venues will host events as a lead-up to the Games in 2010.
The inauguration is slated to be held on October 3.
"The Organising Committee has finalised all the competition and training venues, along with sports complexes and stadiums. Tenders will be awarded in a couple of months' time and construction will begin by the end of the year," Kalmadi added.
Kalmadi also stated that the committee was also concentrating on boosting up India's medals tally during the games by hosting more events during the preceding years.
"Last year in Melbourne, we finished fourth in the overall medal tally. We are aiming for second position in 2010," he said.
Sandy Hollway, CEO of the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games, expressed confidence that Delhi will deliver an outstanding Commonwealth Games.
"Excellent project management, world class fields of play, outstanding venue design and exceptional facilities for media will contribute to the success," Hollway said.
