New Delhi: On the centenary anniversary of the Satyagraha movement, the Congress is going back to Mahatma Gandhi.

The party believes what the Mahatma started in September 11, 1906 in Johannesburg, South Africa, still holds good for 21st century India. After organising the ‘centenary’ of Vande Mataram, the party now plans the centennial celebration of the Satyagrah movement. The belief seems to be that if Gandhigiri can make Lage Raho Munnabhai a hit then Mahatma too can work for the party.

“There is a national committee (on Satyagraha’s centenary) reflective of opinion across the length and breadth of the country. It’s only a catalyst,” says Union Tourism and Culture minister Ambika Soni.

The Government is busy setting up a national committee to plan the celebrations but there will be a question mark over the possibility of today's electorate accepting Gandhi's teachings unless of course the nation's imagination is rekindled by the latest Munnabhai hit. The Congress believes its possible.
