Justice is delayed but never denied. This came true when the Crime Investigation Department (CID) sleuths on Thursday arrested a police constable and suspended a Special Police Officer (SPO) for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman two years ago.
According to the police, the CID sleuths of Guntur investigated into the rape case of a married woman and arrested the accused in connection with it.
Additional director general of Police, CID, SV Ramanamurthy said that the prime accused, constable Orsu Venkatesh alias Venkateswarlu (22) of Krosur police station of Guntur district, had committed the crime on July 13, 2010 after managing to send the victim’s husband away with co-accused suspended SPO Sk Saida and keeping the victim under threat by misusing his official position.
At about 1 am on July 13, Venkatesh had come to the victim’s house near Maszid Manyam, Vinukonda, along with Saida on the pretext of enquiry.
He sent her husband away with Saida and after raping the victim, went away threatening her not to reveal the incident to anyone.
However, she lodged a complaint against the two in the local police station.
The Vinukonda police reportedly did not initiate a proper investigation into the case and finally closed it. The local police inspectors, close to the accused, had repeatedly tried to shield the accused by recommending the closure of the case. They even went to the extent of prosecuting the victim stating that she had lodged a false complaint.
Finally, charges against the SI was dropped, after the case was closed.
Realising that the case was closed wrongly, CID reopened the case and took over it’s investigation. They were finally able to prove, through forensic reports, that Venkatesh had indeed raped the woman and Saida had helped him by preventing the husband to rescue his wife.
The arrested accused were produced before the court in Guntur.The investigation is on.
