BANGALORE: Art Bengaluru 2011, the week-long festival will bring together a cocktail of artists, galleries, art collectors and art aficionados all under one roof Bangalore. The much anticipated second edition of Art Bengaluru 2011, South India’s only contemporary art festival was inaugurated in a grand function attended by prominent members of the art community. The festival was unveiled at the The Collection, UB City on June 17 and is being organised by The Collection, UB City in association with Sublime Galleria and Art Chutney. This is an annual forum which aims to unite the art community at large.The festival was inaugurated with the unveiling of renowned artist, Yusuf Arakkal’s much anticipated ‘car installation’.The art festival will also witness several prominent art enthusiasts supporting the cause this year including Murali Cheeroth, artist, Renu George, participating gallerist, Raj Bagaria, organiser and founder, Yusuf Arakkal, artist, Manu Dosaj — participating gallerist, Raja Kanal — participating gallerist, Franck Barthelemy, International art consultant and Angira Arya, auctioneer to name a few. Adds Uzma Irfan — founder of Sublime Galleria, organiser of Art Bengaluru and director, corporate communications, Prestige Group,“It is our privilege to present the second edition of Art Bengaluru to the city. This week-long festival is a tribute to contemporary art and is our effort to put Bangalore on the map of the international art world. The festival also aims to build awareness on this subject and create a common platform for the art community to come together for this cause.” Art Bengaluru will continue till June 25. The weeklong art festival this year will feature an art exhibition and a series of events including a children’s art contest, an art workshop, speaker sessions, film screening and finally culminate with a star-studded art and luxury auction.This year Art Bengaluru will adopt QR technology to help network with a wider section of art enthusiasts by providing easy access to knowledge resources of the festival.Guests will now be able to connect with the festival website, access programme schedules, after-event party information, the auction details, etc, all from their mobile devices.Hayagreev Technologies will power the solution and the QR codes will be placed strategically throughout the festival zone and interconnected with social media sites including Facebook and Twitter. QR Code or Quick Response Code is a 2 dimensional (2D) bar code that is readable through any QR reader using a smart phone. QR codes can store any kind of data including web addresses, videos, contact information, sms, etc.When users with a smartphone equipped with a QR reader scan the image of the QR code, they are taken directly to the website, or shown a video or provided the relevant contact information, and all on their mobile handset.Art Bengaluru is an exclusive event that is designed to showcase various types of art forms including ‘wall art’ (fine art, paintings, illustration, photographs) and ‘stand-alone art’ (sculpture, installations, product design).Art Bengaluru was first launched in March 2010, and following a successful inaugural edition, the event this year promises to be bigger and better. The first edition saw participation from over 15 art galleries (all Bangalore-based) and attracted more than 5,000 visitors over the 10 day event while the second edition of Art Bengaluru will see participation from artists and galleries across India. The venue for Art Bengaluru will be the highly-acclaimed The Collection, UB City which is conveniently located in the heart of cosmopolitan Bangalore. Needless to say, the Tuscan architecture of UB City complements the art festival by creating an illusion of fluent expanse. Art displayed in this landmark area promises to enhance aesthetic awareness and create a sensory delight for the viewer.
