BANGALORE: The city police commissioner suspended two traffic cops of Madivala police station for unauthorisedly checking of drink and drive cases. The cops allegedly received money from a biker but did not give him a receipt.Police constables Santosh and Srinivasa have been suspended. In his complaint (filed through email), Clave D’souza, alleged that at around 11.45 pm on September 16, he was going on a bike along with his friend near a circle in front of Madivala police station on Hosur Road. The cops stopped his vehicle and enquired him whether he had consumed alcohol. After he was found drunk, they allegedly told him to pay Rs. 500 and let him go.Later, D’souza complained to the top brass through e-mail that the cops had not given him a receipt.More over, they are not supposed to check drunk and drive cases without the supervision of the officer not below the rank of a police sub-inspector.Senior officers, after an enquiry, prima facie found the two cops at fault and have kept them under suspension. However, a source in the Madivala police station said that a sub-inspector, who was on night duty, was present on the day the incident took place.“When senior officials enquired him about this, he told them the suspended constables were not on duty but still stopped vehicles. If that was true, the sub-inspector should have asked the constables to leave. The senior officers did not consider this point and have initiated action only against constables, who did their job as per their superior’s order,” the source said.Meanwhile, he also informed that other constables in the station were reluctant in stopping vehicles during nights after an enquiry was conducted on the two suspended constables fearing that they would also meet the same consequences if they took action.
