Hyderabad: The CPI demanded increasing the total outlay of the Union Budget to Rs 10,00,000 crore with huge investments made in priority areas like health, irrigation, housing and roadways.
"The last budget was of Rs 6,50,000 crore. We are demanding a larger budget. At least Rs 10,00,000 crore should be the Budget. There should be huge outlays for health, water, irrigation, housing, roadways and for the improvement of social infrastructure," CPI leader in the Lok Sabha Gurudas Dasgupta said.
He said that the Government should impose higher taxes on the rich. "Government must tax those who have capacity to pay. Indian taxation system is regressive. We want a progressive tax system."
"In India, whether you are affluent, whether you are rich, whether you are middle class, the rate of tax is same. We want higher rate for the higher income groups. We want strict enforcement of tax laws," Dasgupta said.
"The rich must pay for the poor," he said alleging that "someone is playing foul" in the stock market, the CPI leader demanded an inquiry by an "appropriate agency" into the violent fluctuations in the stock market.
Larger proportion of turnover tax should be imposed in the stock market, he said.
The CPI would protest against the ‘ruthless capitalism’ and the ‘right shift’ in economic policies of the government, Dasgupta added.
