New Delhi: The CPI(M) on Wednesday charged BJP leader and former Union Minister Jaswant Singh with "high level of irresponsibility" by not disclosing the name of the American 'mole' mentioned in his book.
Observing that a notice of privilege motion had been tabled in Rajya Sabha against him, senior CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury said that there were "doubts" about the authenticity of the documents the BJP leader tabled in the House.
In reference to his just-released book A Call to Honour, which has reference to the mole issue, the CPI(M) leader said "for the first time in history, Parliament is involved in promoting a book at state expense. This is absolute travesty of the parliamentary system".
He said the former Minister should give reply to questions like who the 'mole' was, what reasons compelled him to remain silent for 11 years and why he did not share the information with even the NDA government which he was part of.
Yechury said being a member of the Union Cabinet, Singh was a public servant and was "obliged to divulge information under the law to the government and the country".
There were several provisions in the Criminal Procedure Code as well as the Indian Penal Code in this regard, he added.
