THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The allegations of CPM that many of the suspects booked in the TP Chandrasekharan murder case were tortured by the police to extract a  confession did not hold ground, said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy here on Thursday. He asked then why the Koothuparambu CPM office secretary, who was released from police custody, was not produced by the party in front of  the media to prove the charges. He told reporters that C H Ashokan, who is under custody in the case, had reportedly told his son that he was well and fine but took another stance in the court. "The government will ensure that none is tortured. We will not interfere in the discretion of the police in the probe. If the party alleges torture, why the wound certificate of the suspects admitted for medical examination is not being produced,’’ he asked. The Chief Minister repeated the poser to the CPM to clarify whether Idukki secretary M M Mani had come out with startling revelations owing to the persecution of the police. The charge of Elamaram Kareem that the police had slapped a case out of  political motives was also out of place, he said. Will he deny that he had not made the speeches, upon which charges have been laid, the CM asked.
