New Delhi: With the AAP heading for a landslide victory, CPI(M) on Tuesday congratulated the people of Delhi for "decisively" rejecting BJP and hoped the new government will implement policies that benefit the "aam admi".
"The Aam Aadmi Party under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal has won an unprecedented and resounding mandate in the Delhi Assembly election. "The CPI(M) congratulates the people of Delhi for decisively rejecting the BJP. This massive mandate should enable the new government to adopt and implement policies in favour of the aam admi (common man)," the party said in a statement. The AAP was leading in 66 seats in the 70-member Assembly with its nearest rival BJP far behind at 3 seats.
As part of effort to keep BJP and Congress out of power in Delhi, Left parties had announced their support to AAP and asked their supporters to vote in favour of Arvind Kejriwal-led party in seats where the joint front of the Left parties had not put up candidates in Assembly polls. The Left parties contested 15 seats.
