As part of creating awareness on organ donation, the Kidney Foundation of India is taking out a ‘Manava Karunya Yatra 2012’ from Kasargod to Thiruvananthapuram from September 30.
Former President A P J Abdul Kalam had formally inaugurated the 20-day-long yatra on September 7, Foundation chairman David Chiramel said. He said that one of the main objectives of the yatra is to remove the misconceptions regarding cadaver organ donation in society. It also aims to collect 10 lakh organ donation declaration forms (‘Mritha Sanjeevani’) from the general public and hand over the data to the Central Government.
Chiramel said that the yatra will cover all the 14 districts and 42 major awareness events with the participation of all stakeholders, including government agencies, socio- cultural-religious organisations and education institutions, will be held during its course.
