HYDERABAD: AICC secretary KB Krishna Murthy’s sudden appearance on the Assembly premises fuelled speculation that he might be on a special mission to assess dissidence against chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. His visit, in the wake of fusillade against the chief minister that he should own up responsibility for the party’s rout in the recent by elections, assumed significance. If he was really on that mission, he was clever enough not to let the MLAs get any inkling of the purpose of his visit.Krishna Murthy, had a one-on-one with Kiran Kumar Reddy where they reportedly discussed the affairs of the party in the state and what could be done to improve it.Murthy is understood to have told the chief minister that he wanted to elicit opinion from the MLAs on how the party could be strengthened in the state.Interestingly the Pradesh Congress Committee had no information about his arrival.Krishna Murthy reached Hyderabad on Tuesday last night quietly and surfaced at the Assembly on Wednesday morning. He held meetings district-wise with MLAs and tried to get a feedback from them on the state of the party affairs in their districts.According to sources, Krishna Murthy was of the view to reconstitute the party organisation at the district level. The reconstitution of the PCC and DCCs has been pending for quite some time and the AICC emissary wanted to know whether the delay was one of the reasons for the rout of the party in the recent byelections.Krishna Murthy met PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana at the Congress Legislature Party office which led some office bearers of the PCC wondering why Murthy operating from the CLP office instead of the Gandhi Bhavan.“I do not understand why he chose to meet the MLAs at the CLP.He could have done it here,” one office bearer, who did not want his name to be quoted said.Kiran Kumar Reddy’s supporters dismissed his visit as a routine one.“Since he has come from Delhi, he met the chief minister. He is only AICC secretary and there is not much political significance to his meeting with the chief minister,” one source said. But Kiran’s detractors wish that Kirshna Murthy gauge the mood against the chief minister and submit a report to AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad.“We do not know why he is here. But it would be better if he submits a report on the state of the party affairs which is in tatters and suggest something drastic to revive it from becoming moribund,” one leader said.Krishna Murthy while speaking to newsmen said no one had complained against Kiran Kumar Reddy and made it clear that the party would take drastic action against any one targeting the chief minister. He warned that adverse remarks against the chief minister would not be accepted.
