Curfew was clamped after clashes between two groups across Nawada district claimed one life, left five others injured on Monday and shops and properties ransacked and looted.
Police said the clashes broke out as the news of the death of a person, who was among the three injured in an attack on Friday, at Patna Medical College Hospital on Sunday spread during the day. The three had been attacked and injured by unidentified persons at a roadside eatery on NH 31 near Gondpur village under the Town police station.
District Magistrate Adesh Titirmare said one person was gunned down by unidentified persons at Ansarnagar, while five others were injured in clashes at several places under Town and Bundelkhand police station areas during the day.
The two groups also fired on each other, attacked Bundelkhand police station and injured two men there. They also indulged in arson and looted shops and other properties, he said.
Curfew was clamped to control the situation and additional police personnel, including RAF and Special Armed Police were deployed in the sensitive areas of the town, he said.
Senior civil and police officials, including Nalanda police superintendent Nishant Kumar Tiwari are keeping vigil in the town, Titirmare said. The dead man and four of the injured were identified, he said.
