MYSORE: It was a tough time indeed for the police personnel of the City of Palaces. With the wild tuskers creating havoc on one hand and the crowd curious to see the elephants on the other hand, the cops had to resort to caning to disperse thousands of people gathered at Saraswathipuram Dobi Ghat and on the nearby streets.
The situation worsened as more than 5,000 people gathered on the banks of Kukkarahali lake, Saraswathipuram eighth main and around Nayaka community hostels. Some of the curious onlookers climbed upon Nayaka community hall, while few others managed to climb on the terrace of Telugu Shetty Hostel and houses nearby. Morning joggers at Kukkarahalli also turned out in large numbers to see the wild guest. The cops used microphones to request the crowd to disperse and to divert the traffic. The forest officials and Deputy Commissioner were seen repeatedly appealing to the crowd to disperse, fearing that the tranquillised mother tusker might run out from the shrubs.
