London: Soccer star David Beckham has launched a USD 25 million lawsuit against prostitute Irma Nici and the article's publisher, rubbishing claims that she slept with him at a New York hotel in 2007.

Beckham insisted that he was having a late-night massage in his hotel room at the time of the alleged incident.

The 35-year-old footballer has filed a five-page statement with a Californian court earlier this week, claiming that the accusations made by Nici caused him "severe emotional distress, including extended humiliation, embarrassment, anger

and worry," reported MTV News.

In an article published by US magazine In Touch, Nici claimed she met Beckham at New York's Le Parker Meridien Hotel at 10pm on August 16, 2007. The footballer is suing Nici and magazine publisher Bauer, who printed the claims in September, for USD 25 million.

He also refuted a claim that he paid her USD 10,000 in cash. "I do not carry around thousands of dollars in cash when I travel," David said in the statement.

The father-of-three admitted having a massage on arrival at the hotel, but said that his management team was present the whole time.

"As is my custom when I arrive at a hotel on a road trip before a match, a massage therapist came to my hotel room within a few hours after I checked in to give me a massage.

"I recall that the therapist did not leave my hotel room until the very early morning. My security team was with me before, during and after the massage.

After the therapist left I went to sleep," Beckham said.
