BANGALORE: A 19-year-old girl died after she came under a moving train with a 25-year-old man, suspected to be her lover. The incident took place near Binny Mills on Magadi Road at 8.15 am on Tuesday.The deceased has been identified as Meghana, a native of Arkalagud taluk in Hassan district. She was an undergraduate student at a private college at Arakalagud, while the injured is identified as Ganesh alias Uman Ram Devasi. A native of Rajasthan, he was working at a jewellery shop at Kalasipalya in the city.According to the police, Meghana had come to the city on last Saturday and was staying at her relative Ravi’s house in Yeshwantpur. Early on Monday morning, Ravi had dropped Meghana to the city railway station to board a train to Hassan and had returned home. However, the girl had not returned home nor did she go back to her relative, Ravi’s house.“On Tuesday morning, Meghana and Ganesh tried to end their lives by coming under a moving train. They were hit by the Mysore-bound Raja Rani Express. They were thrown out of the track. Meghana was left with a broken back and a leg cut, while Ganesh had grave injuries on his head and multiple injuries on his body. A man noticed this and informed the police. Later, the duo were shifted to Victoria Hospital. Meghana succumbed at around 1 pm,” the police added.Meanwhile, Meghana’s parents were worried as she had not reached home on Monday and did not attend their phone calls.They heard about her only when the police informed them about her suicide attempt. The police suspect that she was with Ganesh on Monday and later the duo might have decided to end their lives.Though the relationship of Meghana and Ganesh is not very clear at the moment, police after verifying their call details suspect that the duo were in courtship.“They were in regular touch with each other since nine months. However, it has to be investigated how they came in contact with each other and got close as Meghana was in Hassan and Ganesh was employed here and stayed at the city,” the police said.Meghana’s parents and relatives informed the police that they did not know who Ganesh was. They also added that were not aware about her relationship with him.The clear details will be known after Ganesh gains consciousness and makes a statement about their relationship before the police.A case has been registered in City Railway police station in this connection and police are further investigating in this regard.
