BANGALORE: “The time has come to rejuvenate judicial system. In an effort to deliver justice at large, the Supreme Court should be decentralised” opined former judge of High Court, Judge M F Saldanha. He was delivering a speech on ‘Rejuvenating Indian Judiciary’ organised by the Advocates’ Association, Bangalore, at High Court on Monday.Pointing out that he has recommended decentralisation of the apex court into four benches, at four corners of the country, Justice Saldanha said, “There exists no shortage of lawyers or judges. Decentralisation of the Supreme Court is the remedy. There should be a bench of SC in Bangalore, as it is geographically a best location and has the country’s biggest bar association. Through this, disposals could be met at a faster pace along with vital issues affecting the economy of the country.”He also mentioned that the judiciary should be responsive to the needs of the litigants and the country. Saldanha also said that the farmers and village community are wiped out in the guise of Global Investors Meet. About 42 per cent of green cover and 52 per cent of mineral wealth has been destroyed by the state government, he added.A delegation will leave to Delhi to meet the Chief Justice of India in the month of February along with representatives of the members of southern states, demanding a separate bench of SC for south India, Advocates Association, Bangalore President, K N Subba Reddy further said.
