New Delhi: BJP on Sunday attacked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for allegedly spending lakhs of rupees on an event in which Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched an anti-corruption helpline and said it was a "drama" to divert attention from his "autocratic" behaviour.

Delhi BJP President Satish Upadhyay questioned why the helpline was not restarted immediately after Kejriwal came to power and claimed the event organised at the Talkatora stadium here was "just a dubious farce".

He said Delhi Government "today spent lakhs of rupees in an event organised at Talkatora stadium just to divert public glare from the stories of Arvind Kejriwal's autocratic functioning going around," according to a party release.

Upadhyay also said, "It is a matter of shame that those who have humiliated the institutions of Lokpal and Lokayukta in their party and government have again started a drama of anti corruption helpline."

He also said that during the last AAP government, Kejriwal had launched an anti corruption helpline and "if he was really serious in his fight against corruption, he could have reactivated the same helpline from day one but he chose to ignore it."

"Now when he was getting adverse publicity all around, his government today choose to relaunch the helpline spending lakhs of rupees," he said.

Kejriwal launched the anti-corruption helpline-1031 and appealed people to inform government against any sort of graft so that action can be taken against the guilty.

The anti-corruption helpline was earlier launched during AAP's 49-day stint in power after the Assembly elections of 2013, but was later discontinued.
