New Delhi: The Delhi Government has planned a series of week-long activities including a special tree plantation and cleanliness drive to celebrate country's 68th Independence day, Lt Governor Jung said in a special appeal to citizens of Delhi.

As part of the celebrations, a number of events such as Prabhat Pheris and door-to-door campaigns by students to spread Mahatma Gandhiji's message of non-violence and cleanliness, Raahgiri in Chandni Chowk, Jashn-e-Azadi at Central Park and Delhi Haats, Medical camps and Organ Donation pledges and many other programmes are being organised all across the city.

"I urge people from all walks of life to come out in large numbers and participate with great enthusiasm in these programmes and make them a grand success. The citizens may also demonstrate their participation through display of flowers, flags and balloons in their homes, offices and neighbourhoods," Jung appealed.

The Delhi Government also provided free DTC service to the citizens travelling to Red Fort to hear the Prime Minister's address.

Delhi Metro also started its services as early as 4:30 AM and complimentary travel coupons were provided to commuters from all stations to Kashmere Gate and Chandni Chowk who travelled to attend the Independence day function at the Red Fort.
