New Delhi: Incidents of chain snatching have seen a massive rise in the last few months and seems to be turning into an organised crime in Delhi-NCR. Almost 2000 chain snatching cases has been registered in Delhi since January 2014. Chain snatchers generally target women pedestrians.
While investigating a case police found a video clip in which bike rider and his accomplice are seen snatching a woman's chain in RK Puram area of Delhi.
Since January police have registered 2044 cases till March 31.
Delhi Police officials reveal that most snatchers belong to the 18-25 age group.
Recently, police nabbed a 28-year-old girl with his boyfriend. They are involved in around two dozen chain snatching incidents in Delhi.
Police suspected the several women involved in this crime, in which college going girls, riding pillion with their boyfriends, have grabbed gold chains from women on roads and fled.
