New Delhi: Delhi police is planning a full-fledged roll-out for its app which registers FIRs online in motor vehicle theft cases, after its trial run went smoothly.

Fifteen cases were lodged since the app's trial run which began on Thursday and Delhi police top brass are planning a grand event to officially launch it.

Efforts are being made to get the app unveiled by Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

"We have registered 15 online FIRs till this afternoon and the system has responded well. It has been a smooth affair so far and we will be able to launch it very soon," a senior police official said.

Delhi police is the first in the world to implement this provision, which allows online registration of FIRs in motor vehicle theft cases and furnishes an 'Untraced Report' duly accepted by relevant court.

"This is sort of game changer not only in history of Indian Police but all over the world as online FIR has been thought and deliberated since long time, but conceptualised and executed for the first time. It took us almost a year to materialise it," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said.

"Most challenging was the Court module. We had to make several presentations before High Court's e-committee as well as the District Courts and sync our systems with theirs.

Another major step was getting e-Court notified in every district court for this purpose (the ACMM courts)," he added.

On recovery of stolen vehicles, the details would be matched with centralised databases resulting in disposal of cases.
