JHARSUGUDA: Even as the dengue toll here reached six, the ineffective Jharsuguda Municipality is busy in petty politicking. Sources said resentment is brewing against the civic body as it has failed to curb mosquito menace due to the infighting between executive officer (EO) Umashankar Patnaik and Congress chairperson Pratima Xalxo. The EO is being seen close to BJD, campaigning for removal of Xalxo and agitations of BJD have become common. Not to be left behind is the local Congress leadership as their supporters often conduct agitations seeking removal of the EO. Reports said a retired railway employee Debraj Naik on Wednesday night died at SCB Medical, Cuttack, of dengue after his treatment at Jharsuguda and Ispat General Hospital at Rourkela proved unsuccessful. The first death occurred on August 10 when Prasant Sehnet died of dengue symptoms. While Jharsuguda Collector Guru Prasad Mishra and SP Dayal Gangwar are monitoring sanitary works at the industrial areas of MCL, OPGC and Vedanta, they do not seem to intervene in the politics of the civic body.
