BANGALORE: The Consumer Forum has directed Anand Diagnostic Laboratory to pay Rs 30,000 as compensation along with costs to Ranjani Sethuraman for making an error in conducting a test that was prescribed for the foetus that she was carrying.
Ranjani's gynecologist had advised her to get the DS screening for the baby she was carrying to ascertain if the baby was suffering from any congenital physical defects or mental disorders including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, which is a neurobehavioral developmental disorder. According to the prescribed procedure, the test has to be carried out between the 15th and the 20th weeks of pregnancy to enable the doctors to treat the baby if it is suffering from the aforesaid debility and if the treatment is delayed the treatment might not be effective.
