THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: If there was anything the International Women’s Day discussed in every nook and corner of the State, it was the protection of women in society. Vanitha Sahithi, taking a cue from the need of the hour, is planning to launch a directory aimed at becoming a handy tool for a woman travelling alone. The directory will have contact details of short-stay homes, legal forums and security facilities for women. It is as part of a long-term campaign to be launched by Vanitha Sahithi in the State that the directory would be brought out. ‘’There are many women out there, moving around on their own. We plan to bring out the directory as an aid for them. It would also have details on whom to contact if they met with any kind of trouble and what to do if they fell prey to a mishap and it could also later help them if they planned to take a legal route and so on,’’ said P S Sreekala, member of Vanitha Sahithi. The campaign is being launched on the theme ‘Protection of women, protection of society’, as part of which the organisation will reach out to colleges, schools, offices and other institutions with the message. Awareness classes, distribution of pamphlets, seminars and ‘kala jatha’ would be organised. The ‘kala jatha’ will make use of poems and choral songs to take the message to the society. Seminars will be held in open public spaces so that people get to listen to the discussions. The official launch of the campaign will be done at Gandhi Park on Tuesday by Speaker G Karthikeyan. Dr K N Panickar, Sugathakumari, P K Sreemathi, K R Mohanan, Kadakampally Surendran, Savithri Rajeevan and Madhusoodhanan Nair would attend.
