Dismissed CAR policeman stabs actress

BANGALORE: A small time Kannada cine artiste was stabbed by her lover, a dismissed police constable, who tried to kill himself after attacking her. The incident was reported in Judicial Layout in Yelahanka police station limits on Tuesday evening.The victim has been identified as Sowmya, 23, while the accused is identified as Anil Kumar alias Rahul, 28. He was an armed police constable with District Armed Reserve (CAR) in Madikeri and had stopped going to work in 2010. It had resulted in his dismissal. Sowmya, a resident of Laggere, has acted in a few Kannada flicks including ‘Huduga Hudugi’ as an extra artiste.According to the police, the duo were in a live-in-relationship. Rahul, who was already married to one, Rajani, and had a kid, had not informed this to Sowmya. He had also applied for a divorce from Ranjita. But, Sowmya learnt about his past and had deserted him.On Tuesday, Rahul called her to discuss the matter, and they met in the evening. In a heated argument, Rahul allegedly stabbed her in the neck, chest and other parts. Later, he stabbed himself in his abdomen.“Hearing the duo scream, neighbours rushed to help them. But, Rahul went to the kitchen and threatened that he would blow up the LPG gas if anybody entered. However, the police rushed to the spot and persuaded him. The duo were shifted to a hospital. Rahul was arrested after being treated,”  the police added.Sowmya was accompanied by a person and he witnessed the incident.
