BARGARH: Suicides by farmers over crop loss continue to haunt western Odisha. A farmer Lalit Mohan Sahu (42) of Nuagarh village near Khandahata under Bargarh Sadar block allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday.As per reports, Lalit had cultivated paddy on over three acres during the last kharif season. The crop got damaged due to inclement weather. His situation further worsened when the subsequent rabi crops also failed.Sources said with two crops failing, Sahu was under mental stress to repay loans and he also had to spend on the treatment of his mother for burn injuries. With no help or other option in sight, he consumed pesticide on Tuesday morning.Though he was rushed to Bargarh district headquarters hospital, he was declared brought dead.Lalit had availed of the loans from Adgaon Seva Samabaya Samiti besides hand loans.
