CHENNAI: Describing the DMK's call for boycotting classes by students in the State demanding the implementation of Uniform School Education a politically motivated one, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday said that the agitation was a damp squib as 93.4 per cent of students attended classes.Jayalalithaa condemned the DMK for calling for an unnecessary stir that claimed the life of a student in Tiruvarur district. She announced a solatium of `2 lakh to the family of the student.In a statement in Chennai, the chief minister said that of the 47,88,624 students in Tamil Nadu, 44,74,435 students attended their classes on Friday.In Tiruvarur district, due to the instigation of DMK district secretary Poondi Kalaivanan, 153 students of Koradacheri Boys' Higher Secondary School were prevented from attending their classes.
When they were returning home in a bus, it fell into a canal near Manjakollai causing the death of a student.
