A doctor and his wife were arrested in Lucknow on Tuesday for assaulting and torturing their domestic help, police said. The couple were arrested from Metro City in Mahanagar after the 20-year-old domestic help, Lalita, escaped from their house and lodged a complaint with police.

She bore injuries inflicted by a kitchen knife and cigarette burns, police said. Doctor Ashutosh, his wife Pragati and their servant David had been beating her brutally for the last one month, police said.
The girl's mother died last year after which her father remarried and threw her out.
