Government doctors on emergency duty would put in their papers on Monday but the services are unlikely to be affected, informed Dr H N Ravindra, president of the Karnataka State Government Medical Officers’ Association.
He said more than 300 resignations are expected on Monday, although more than 3,800 resignations have already been submitted, out of which 120 are from Bangalore Urban and 64 are from Bangalore Rural.
However, emergency services are unlikely to be hit until August 9 as the government doctors would continue to work.
The doctors ascertained that if their pending demands are not met by August 9 then they would stop work, he told Express on Sunday.
Doctors say that bringing district hospitals under the Directorate of Medical Education from Department of Health and Family Welfare, would deprive them of the chances of getting promotion. “We either need an uniform incentives scale, or proper incentives along with time-bound promotions,” he said.
A special officer to the Department of Health and Family Welfare said that after starting off ones career with a primary health centres, the doctors, get promoted to work in district hospitals. “Now since the district hospitals aren’t there, they would have to stay with the PHCs till the end.” Dr Ravindra said.
However, Health Minister Aravind Limbavali maintained that a meeting to be held with Medical Education Minister S A Ramdas and Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar would determine the subsequent course of action, while maintaining that medical services would not be affected.
