CHENNAI: A driver, who allegedly waylaid and robbed Rs 1.5 lakh from a trading company owner, was arrested by the police on Wednesday. Search is on for two of his accomplices.Carrying Rs 1.5 lakh with him, Naga Traders owner A Gopinath (35) of Venkatesan Choudhury Street, West Tambaram, was crossing the road to go to the bank to deposit the cash, when a car came to a screeching halt near him. It’s occupants snatched his bag containing the cash and sped away, the police said. He then lodged a plaint with the Tambaram police. On suburban CoP Karan Singha’s directive, a special team traced the car with the help of its number plate and zeroed in on the owner. Upon questioning, he claimed that he had rented the car to a company called Mepsil in Tambaram and one A Mahesh was driving it. Based on this, the team picked up A Mahesh (28) of Lakshmi Nagar, Mudichur. He then confessed to commiting the crime with the help of  his friends Yesunathan and Shahul. As much as `1.04 was recovered.
