Incriminating documents seized as Madurai police swoop down on property in Chennai in connection with granite scam probe

The Madurai cops, who are on the trail of Durai Dhayanidhi, an accused in the multi-crore granite scam case, conducted a search at his cinema production house, ‘Cloud Nine Movies’ and his house in Chennai on Thursday and reportedly seized several incriminating documents.

The special team searched his production house at T Nagar in Chennai nearly for an hour and seized incriminating documents. Police have filed FIR against Dayanidhi and Nagarajan, partners in Olympus Granites Pvt Ltd for alleged to have illegally quarried the land that belonged to Tamil Nadu Minerals Limited (TAMIN) and special teams have been searching for them in various places in the country.

“As Durai Dayanidhi has not surrendered even after his bail plea was rejected by the court, a police team conducted a search at his film company and house in Chennai during which incriminating documents were seized,” said a senior police officer.

Madurai Superintendent of Police V Balakrishnan told Express that they have also sought details of the assets owned by those, including Durai Dayanandhi and PRP Exports shareholders Palanisamy, involved in the illegal granite quarrying case from the Registration Department.

“We have sent a letter to the Government seeking permission to seize the property of the accused. If the Government gives its approval, we are planning to obtain a warrant through legal process to attach their property in the case,” said Balakrishnan.

Explaining the property details of Durai Dayanidhi, a senior police officer claimed that he owned 1,730 acres (Dhaya cyber multi-storied building at Maatuthavani and the Cloud Nine Movies office) worth around `3,000 crore.

In the case of PRP Exports, it has been estimated that the shareholders Palanichamy and his sons, Suresh Kumar and Senthil Kumar, owned 24,300 acres worth around `25,000 crore. The property also includes the PRP Exports office and its factories, staff quarters, which were functioning in 400 acres, the officer said.

Police are also gathering asset details of PK Selvaraj, owner of Sindhu Granites, Periyasamy, owner of PS Granites and Panneer Mohamed, owner of Madurai Granites from the sub-registrar’s office.

Meanwhile a single judge at the Madurai Bench of the High Court will hear on October 11 a petition filed by Durai Dayanidhi to quash a FIR filed against the Union Minister’s son in Keelavalavu police station in connection with the illegal granite quarrying case.
