CHENNAI: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) conducted searches at the residence of Additional Director General of Police M S Jaffar Sait and eight others on Tuesday. In a press release, the DVAC said a case was registered against Jaffar Sait, Special Officer at the refugee camp at Mandapam, on a complaint alleging that the former ADGP (Intelligence) had “entered into a criminal conspiracy with others and in pursuance of the criminal policy had got allotment of a Tamil Nadu Housing Board plot in Thiruvanmiyur by suppressing certain information.” It said he had “subsequently entered into an agreement with a private construction firm for development of the said property, thereby defrauding TNHB and deriving undue pecuniary advantage to himself.”The release said searches were conducted at Sait’s residence at Anna Nagar; the house of Durga Shankar, son of retired IAS official Rajamanickam, in Nandambakkam; the offices of Land Mark Construction in T Nagar and Barnas International Private Ltd, Vepery; and the houses of A V Jaishankar in West Mambalam, Balraj Johnson in Thiruvanmiyur, Kasturi Raj in Anna Nagar and Najumuddin in Egmore.Sait’s office in Mandapam was also searched, sources said, adding that the teams were led by additional SP S Subbaiyah. “Since it is a documents-based case, we will scrutinise the relevant records and submit a report to the court,” a senior police officer told Express.
