KOCHI: Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Monday extended the remand of Crime Branch DySP N Abdul Rasheed, the key accused in the Unnithan murder attempt case. Magistrate S Santhosh Kumar remanded him in judicial custody till May 14 as the CBI did not ask for his custody. The CBI requested the court to extend Rasheed’s remand as he could influence the witness if he is released.Meanwhile, Rasheed approached the Principal Sessions Court seeking bail. The CBI opposed Rasheed’s bail plea stating that he is the key accused. “Since Rasheed had been part of the Crime Branch investigation team which probed the Unnithan murder attempt case, there are high chances that he may influence the witnesses,” the CBI said. The Sessions Court will pronounce the verdict on Wednesday. The CJM court had earlier dismissed the bail plea of Rasheed. The CBI officials told Express that they did not ask for Rasheed’s custody as all evidence against him had been collected. The police team under the Ernakulam ACP Sunil Jacob reached CBI office in Pullepady and recorded it. The case given by CBI officials was that Abdul Rasheed had disturbed them from carrying out the investigation.
