HYDERABAD: The appointment of Manju Srivastav, wife of a retired IPS officer as Hindi officer in the English and Foreign Languages University has led to a controversy with students alleging she is not qualified and got appointed using political connections of her husband. They demanded she be removed from the post immediately. The EFLU students who met the in-charge vice-chancellor professor Amrutha Valli on Monday submitted a long list of demands regarding various irregularities in the university. The students also drew attention to an ongoing case of alleged caste discrimination on the campus.According to a complaint filed with the National Human Rights Commission, dean of the School of Germanic Studies, Meenakshi Reddy is alleged to have made casteist remarks against an undergraduate student, said Mohan Dharavath, a representative of the Dalit Adivasi Bahujan Minorities Students’ Association. The students demanded that Reddy be suspended from her post. They also demanded greater transparency in appointment of non-teaching posts. Over 120 non-teaching vacancies were advertised in newspapers but these posts were filled up through internal promotions. Students also alleged the university authorities had violated SC, ST and OBC reservations and given promotions to those who are ineligible. The students informed that, Bapaiah, the former registrar had appointed three ad-hoc posts against rules and manipulated payments and other medical bills in his favor. They said despite reports from a number of agencies including the CBI, no effort has been made to recover the pilfered wealth.Various student organisations have resolved to intensify protests if their demands are not met.
