England have included Darren Gough in the 30 probables for the Champions Trophy although Monty Panesar missed out.

London: England selectors have included veteran fast bowler Darren Gough in a 30-man provisional squad for this year's ICC Champions Trophy in India although there was no place for new spin sensation Monty Panesar.

The squad released on Thursday includes five players uncapped at One-Day International level -- Ravi Bopara, Stuart Broad, Mal Loye, Graham Onions and Michael Yardy -- but some are likely to miss out when the travelling squad is cut to 14.

Gough, who will be 36 by the time of the October/November tournament, has not featured in an England One-Day squad since last year's series against Australia.

Chairman of selectors David Graveney, said in a statement: "We have included a number of players who are currently recovering from injury in this provisional squad -- James Anderson, Ian Blackwell, Andrew Flintoff, Ashley Giles and Liam Plunkett.

"The medical advice we have received is that there is a good chance that they will be available for the tournament but we will need to review their progress before the squad has to be reduced to 14 on September 7.

"We have kept faith with the bulk of the squad who appeared against Sri Lanka as we feel there were encouraging individual performances in that series despite the disappointing results overall," Graveney said of the 5-0 home defeat this summer.

Panesar has taken 16 wickets in the first three Tests of the current series against Pakistan but has been overlooked in favour of long-serving spinner Ashley Giles, presently injured.

Graveney defended the decision, telling Sky Sports News: "I'll probably ring him (Panesar) to explain that the door is not completely shut but for him the best thing is if he concentrates on Test cricket.

"Let's see Monty bowl on different kinds of surfaces. He's done exceptionally well but he is the type of bloke who will keep his feet on the ground which is good because the Pakistanis still have a lot to play for (in the fourth and final Test)."

Provisional squad: James Anderson (Lancashire), Ian Bell (Warwickshire) Ian Blackwell (Somerset), Ravi Bopara (Essex), Tim Bresnan (Yorkshire), Stuart Broad (Leicestershire), Andrew Flintoff (Lancashire), Glen Chapple (Lancashire), Rikki Clarke (Surrey), Paul Collingwood (Durham), Alastair Cook (Essex), James Dalrymple (Middlesex), Ashley Giles (Warwickshire), Darren Gough (Essex), Stephen Harmison (Durham), Matthew Hoggard (Yorkshire), Geraint Jones (Kent), Ed Joyce (Middlesex), Jon Lewis (Gloucestershire), Alex Loudon (Warwickshire), Mal Loye (Lancashire), Sajid Mahmood (Lancashire), Graham Onions (Durham), Kevin Pietersen (Hampshire), Liam Plunkett (Durham), Chris Read (Nottinghamshire), Vikram Solanki (Worcestershire), Andrew Strauss (Middlesex), Marcus Trescothick (Somerset), Michael Yardy (Sussex).
