NABARANGPUR: The BJP is apprehensive that EVMs would be tampered with during the Umerkote by-election on November 30. The party’s State vice-president Ashok Sahu, at a press conference here on Sunday said, “We suspect that EVMs may be tampered with and accordingly letters have to be sent to the Election Commission and the Chief Electoral Officer urging them to allow authorised technical persons of political parties to check and verify the voting machines before being despatched to the polling booths.” Sahu said Revenue Minister Surya Narayan Patro’s assertion that the BJD would win the by-poll by 19,063 votes has heightened their suspicion. “The EVMs will be brought from Malkangiri district. We have instead urged the Election Commission to get machines from outside the State,” he said.
