KOCHI: With the senior citizens’ ‘Pakalveedu’ set to celebrate its first anniversary next month, a family meet of its members was organised at the Gandhi Bhavan, Kacherippadi, here on Saturday. It was the eleventh such get-together of the ‘Pakalveedu’, an initiative by the Gandhian Sangadana Ekopana Samithy. “The everyday interaction that happens here helps us to forget our sorrows and loneliness,” said P V Krishnan Nair, ‘Pakalveedu’ convenor and the Ernakulam district president of the State Pensioners’ Union. Addressing the gathering, Gandhian Sangadana Ekopathy Samithy convenor V P G Marar urged the government to provide more support to the elderly people.Marar said that there are about 20,0000 elders in Kerala and the Government should initiate welfare schemes that will provide monitory assistance to the senior citizens.
