Mumbai: The small screen has played a saviour for many big film stars. From Amitabh Bachchan to Sonali Bendre, all have tried their luck at television.

Year 2009 hasn’t been a very good year for actor Akshay Kumar on the big screen but Khatroon Ke Khiladi has done wonders for him.

Akshay's Chandini Chowk to China fell flat at the box office, Tasveer 8X10 sank without a trace and he was criticised for being a part of Kambakkht Ishq.

But when ‘Khiladi’ Kumar returned to the small screen for the second season of Khatroon Ke Khiladi on September 7, the response was huge making it the top rated show across all entertainment channels.

Today, actors don't shy away from being connected to the television shows.

It all started with Amitabh Bachchan giving a nod to Kaun Banega Crorepati in 2000. It was a time when his career in the movies was going downhill and this year Big B is returning to the small screen in a new avatar for the new season of Bigg Boss.

Earlier, actress Shilpa Shetty made a comeback in the industry after winning the British reality show Big Brother.

Salman Khan's Dus Ka Dum on Sony Television too continues to be one of the most popular shows, even though the actor's last few releases have failed commercially.

Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Shilpa Shetty, Urmila Matondkar, Farah Khan, Shekhar Kapoor and Sonali Bendre, they all have been on one or the other television shows.

Once considered a career option for only the less sought after film actor, television is now the most sought career in Bollywood.
