The Master of Fisheries Science programme in Seafood Safety and Trade course in Cochin University of Science and Technology was officially launched by Hibi Eden MLA, who is also Syndicate member, at School of Marine Sciences auditorium on the Lakeside campus on Thursday.
The course, which is being conducted by the School of Industrial Fisheries, under the aegis of the innovative programme of UGC in association with National Institute of Fish Post Harvest Technology and Training (NIFHATT) and Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI) has already commenced. The two-year course aims to develop manpower specialised in managerial skill and to extend state-of-the-art research opportunities in emerging vistas related to seafood trade, seafood quality assurance and international trend.
It is interdisciplinary and designed to mould professionals who are capable to tackle the challenges faced by the flourishing seafood industry and food industry in general. Those who complete the course can take up entry level posts in seafood production, sales, marketing, quality assurance, food safety, total quality management, import and export.
Cusat vice-chancellor Ramachandran Thekkedath presided over the function. Cusat registrar and Director of School of Industrial Fisheries A Ramachandran welcomed the gathering. Prof Saleena Mathew, Deputy Coordinator proposed the vote of thanks.
