New Delhi: The spat between eminent cardiologist Naresh Trehan and the Fortis management snowballed into a bigger controversy as the hospital’s top management on Monday reshuffled the key posts including the one held by Trehan at Escorts before he was sacked.
Escorts Hospital Managing Director Shivender Mohan Singh has taken over as the Executive Director, a post once occupied by Trehan, of the embattled heartcare institute.
Trehan was sacked by Fortis on Friday. Rajen Ghadiok has been appointed as the Medical Director of the Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre (EHIRC), while Daljeet Singh will be the new President (Operations). Air Commodore (retd) K C Sharma will be the new Chief Adminsitrator while Sadhana Singh has been appointed as the Deputy General Manager (Hospitality).
V R Gupta has been moved from Escorts Faridabad to the Delhi facility as the Deputy Medical Superintendent. Raj Gore has been brought in as senior manager (patient care) while Col (retd) S S Grewal will be the new General Manager (Commercial). Grewal was earlier working at the Ranbaxy Laboratories in Mohali.
Col (retd) Chandel will be overall incharge of security. "All those who have been replaced have been given promotions and will be posted across the Fortis Group institutions," Shivender Mohan Singh told PTI.
No new patients for Trehan at Escorts
Heart patients seeking treatment from sacked Escorts Hospital Executive Director Naresh Trehan were turned away as his name no longer finds a mention in the list of doctors at the healthcare centre.
Trehan, a renowned cardiologist, has not been allowed to take new patients at the Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre since his ouster on Friday by Ranbaxy-promoted Fortis Healthcare that bought 90 per cent stake in Escorts in September 2005.
Trehan visited the hospital Monday morning, examined his patients and began operations that were scheduled for the day, hospital officials said.
However, no new patients are being admitted under Trehan as his name has been struck off from the hospital rolls, they said. A High Court order on Saturday had given Trehan unrestricted access to the hospital. Sources close to Trehan also said that the cardiologist has been receiving letters directly from patients who had been turned down by the hospital.
"I was given a letter on May 17 for an appointment for surgery today. But now they are not admitting me. I came all the way from Jaipur at 4:00 hours IST. I have no idea what is going to happen," said 74-year-old Bimal Rai.
He said Trehan and his associate Nitish Chandra were to conduct the surgery Monday. Sushil Pruthy, a resident of Najafgarh, was also asked by the hospital authorities to have his mother Pushpa (65) admitted today for treatment of heart ailment.
