CHENNAI: Four cases of suicide, including a 22-year-old post graduate student who hanged himself, were reported in the city on Saturday.Kaja Mohideen (22), an MCA student from Elephant Tank, Ice House committed suicide by hanging allegedly after he was caught having ‘bit papers’ during an exam and was warned about this, police said.Kaja Mohideen’s father Latif Basha, an attender with a nationalised bank, said that his son, a first year MCA student in a college at Sholinganallur was seen looking dull and depressed on Friday after he returned home much earlier than the usual time.“Kaja did not have his dinner properly and did not even tell any of us what happened in college,” Latif Basha told Express.The student had switched off his phone and took the extreme step on Saturday morning in his room, police said. “We tried his number and found it switched off and heard of his death around 12.30 pm,” said Sabari, Kaja’s friend.In another suicide reported at Maduravoyal, police said 19-year-old Murali of Ganapathy Nagar, Vanagaram was frustrated as he had failed in three subjects — English, Maths and Science — in the recently released Plus Two results. Police sources said the 19-year-old, a student from a government school in Maduravoyal, was a below average student and had hanged himself in a room.A 50-year-old Sadhasivam of Selvam Nagar, Puzhal, a postman with the KK Nagar post office, committed suicide by hanging himself allegedly after he was depressed over the transfer he was given four months ago, police said. His wife Saraswathi and daughter Archana were visiting her parents’ house when the postman took the extreme step.In a case reported at Ice house, police said a 15-year-old girl from Muthayal Thottam, Ice House immolated herself after her grandmother allegedly scolded her when she came to know that the girl was in love with her neighbour.
