ANGAMALY: Free access to knowledge in all fields is crucial for achieving fast and inclusive growth, said Richard M Stallman, founder, Free Software Movement, at FISAT Engineering College, here on Wednesday. After releasing ‘One Million Codes’ written by the students for the community project of the Free Software Cell, he said that GNU General Public Licence gives everyone the freedom to copy, study and redistribute the source of a project with or without changes. The release of projects and codes bring the programmes to the world of free software developers and enable the students to collaborate with developers around the world and enrich their knowledge. Besides, it gives them exposure to the coding standards, and keeps them updated on the latest technology.Instilling the concepts of Free Software Movement in the minds of students while they learn the fundamentals of software development is an effective way of contributing to the movement. Despite its popularity, only a handful of developers have contributed to this movement, he said.
