Fund crunch may hit salary payment

PUDUCHERRY: The UT was facing an acute financial crunch and if this situation persists, there may not be enough funds even to meet the salary payment of government employees in the coming months, Puducherry State Government Employees Central Federation general secretary P Latchumanasamy said on Tuesday.Addressing a press meet here, he said the administration was making efforts to procure loans from outside agencies to overcome this crisis.However, these efforts would meet with little success as the the UT has lost the eligibility criteria (for loans) as the Gross State Domestic Production (GSDP) has crossed 30 per cent, he pointed out. Only a state or UT with GSDP below 25 per cent is eligible to get loans from outside agencies, he said.Latchumanasamy said the federation would organise a demonstration near Raj Nivas on Nov 25 to protest governmet inaction.
