'Gandhigiri' by Hyderabad Traffic Police, garlands those who urinate in public

Hyderabad: In a unique and novel initiative to stop the menace of public urination, the Hyderabad Traffic Police has started a campaign to garland those who relieve themselves in open.

Inspector Rama Swamy said, "We see people urinating on footpath. So also as a part of people friendly policing, in a very soft manner we are garlanding them, giving flowers. This way not only they feel guilty but also people nearby who see them will not do. To keep city clean under Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan this is our small contribution."

The foul smell aside, public urination leads to serious sanitation and health issues. Every day, 15 to 20 people are being shamed with garlands by traffic police. But many are wondering if this is the real solution.

"It's a great initiative. We support it. It's a big problem on road. There is need to educate masses," said a resident.

This is not the only unique campaign by the Hyderabad Traffic Police. Rather than imposing a fine on people for not wearing helmets, they have been distributing chocolates to helmet wearers to get their message heard.

These unique initiative of Hyderabad traffic police has caught the attention, but the question is will the "Gandhigiri" way to deal with such violators, bring in any change.

What's your reaction?
