Visakhapatnam: Gold biscuits worth Rs 1.09 crore smuggled from Myanmar has been seized from two train passengers at the railway station here, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence said here on Wednesday.
It said that DRI officers, acting on specific intelligence inputs, intercepted two passengers travelling on the Guwahati-Secunderabad Express on January 4 at the Visakhapatnam railway station.
On examination, it was found that they were carrying gold concealed in specially made packets inside the cotton vests worn by them, the DRI said in a statement.
On being questioned, the duo reportedly confessed that the gold was smuggled to India from Myanmar and someone handed it over to them for onward transfer to Secunderabad.
A total of 3,314 grams of smuggled gold was recovered from them, the release said.
The two passengers and the mastermind involved in the smuggling of the gold were arrested on Tuesday, the release added.
