ROURKELA: Countdown has begun for Diwali and with it the rush for gold ornaments. If the trend is any indication, the gold market for the festive season might break past records.The initial gloom has given way to a surge in demand notwithstanding the price, ` 25,000 per 10 gm of yellow metal. With ‘Dhanteras’ on Monday and Tuesday, gold sale is expected to soar further.Market sources said Durga Puja proved a dampener as far as bullion business was concerned and all the jewellers have pinned hopes on Dhanteras. All showrooms besides medium and small ones have flashy- dazzling look and it is raining freebies. Proprietor of Zever Jewellers Ravi Agarwal said gold market was picking up and amid growing awareness on Hallmark products, buyers are investing in it as a safe bet. He, however, said the city is yet to be fancied to the charm of diamond or platinum ornaments.With wedding season ahead, some buyers are also choosing the occasion to buy gold in advance. Ironically, the shadow of the dwindling local economy due to industrial slowdown in Rourkela city seems to have gone overnight. The gold vendors will have the last laugh.
