New Delhi: The Google doodle commemorating the 125th birth anniversary of Mexican painter Diego Rivera shows him painting a mural with a faint hint of the Google logo on the background.
Rivera's large-scale was responsible for the revival of fresco painting in Latin America.
Born on December 8, 1886 in Guanajuato, Mexico, Diego Rivera studied art in Mexico City and later moved to Spain to continue his studies. He settled in Paris and came in contact and befriended leading artists such as Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque.
On his return to Mexico in 1921 he began work on a number of murals on revolutionary themes to decorate Mexico's public buildings. His first important work was the mural Creation for the Bolívar Auditorium at the National Preparatory School in Mexico City.
Diego Rivera married fellow Mexican painter Frida Kahlo twice. They first married in 1929, then separated in 1939 only to remarry in 1941.
In the early 1930s he painted murals in the United States. Rivera died on November 25, 1957 in Mexico City and left unfinished his most ambitious mural on the history of Mexico for the National Palace, Mexico City.
The doodle team at Google has created about 240 doodles in 2011 commemorating different events of importance across the world. Some of the doodles are limited to Google's country specific home pages while others are appear globally.
