Google, eBay tie up to push business
Google and eBay have announced an alliance to push business software services to increase competition with Miicrosoft.

San Francisco: Internet search leader Google announced an international alliance with auction powerhouse eBay and also outlined a push into business software services that increases its competition with Microsoft on Monday.

The agreement with eBay will see Google supplying all the website's text ads outside the US where rival Yahoo already has an exclusive advertising contract.

Google and eBay will also join forces on "click-to-call" ads that link online shoppers to merchants via Internet phone calls, the companies said.

In a separate announcement Google also said it would begin offering Google Apps, a suite of software services for small businesses.

The provision of free email, scheduling and communications programmes for businesses put Google in direct competition with Microsoft whose Office Productivity Suite currently dominates the market and is one of the major earners for the software giant.
