PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister N Rangasamy said his government was considering a hike in fund allocation for the Department of Sainik Welfare so that various schemes for the ex-servicemen and their families could be implemented.He was addressing the gathering at Raj Nivas after receiving the rolling trophy awarded by the Ministry of Defence to Union Territory of Puducherry for “highest per capita collection” toward Armed Forces Flag Day Fund for the year 2008-2009.The CM said the allocation to the Department of Sainik Welfare had been increased last year and the State was planning to hike it further this year. UT has collected `25,01,659 for 2008-09. The collections for 2009-2010 was `29,14,480 while for 2010-2011 it was `41 lakh. The awards for these years were yet to be announced.Lt Governor Iqbal Singh, who gave away the rolling trophy to Rangasamy, said this award should motivate people to contribute liberally and work towards the welfare of the service personnel, as a tribute to the courage and valour displayed by the armed forces. Director of Sainik Welfare Department Col (retd) M S Sunderam said the trophy, which was presented to the UT government on Tuesday, was received from Defence Minister A K Antony in Delhi on June 27.
