CHENNAI: The State Health Ministry has shot off show cause notices to a medical college in Tiruvallur and a medical university seeking an explanation on the functioning of the college that had come under the scanner of Medical Council of India.Established last year, the college was recently denied permission to admit students by the MCI due to a fudged up teachers’ list. During an inspection earlier this year, the MCI had reportedly discovered that the list of teachers submitted by the college were in fact not of their faculty at all. The college had reportedly listed their names without their consent. To that effect, the MCI had sent across a letter of intimation to the medical education selection committee that functioned under the Directorate of Medical Education. The State Health Ministry took suo moto cognisance of the development and issued show cause notices to both the college and the medical university that the institution was affiliated to.Health Minister V S Vijay told Express, “We received information that the MCI has sent them a letter following certain reports that the college has used the names of certain doctors as their assistant professors without seeking their permission. So, we want to understand how the college functioned.”
